Alcan Packaging Co. v. Graphic Communication Conference, International Brotherhood of Teamsters & Local Union No. 727-S et al

CONCLUDED

Hearing
08/22/12 – 08/22/12

Summary

Alcan went into a CBA with two labor unions and later sold three plants to Bermis. All employees kept their jobs, but the labor unions maintained that they should get severance pay for the "complete and permanent closing" of the sold plants. The labor unions also protest the fact that Bemis did not take over the CBAs when purchasing the plants.

Outcome

The court wholly enforced the arbitration except for the part with the severance issue. Because the plant is still open, there is no need for severance pay.
