Summary

In this Education negligence and premises liability litigation proceeding, plaintiff Harry Pryde and Karen Pryde (Administrators of the estate of Julia Kathleen Pryde) alleged Virginia Tech and its staff of being negligent by not immediately warning students of two shootings that occurred in a dormitory at 7:15 a.m. on the day when the horrible Virginia Tech Massacre took place, which caused the wrongful death of their daughter Julia Kathleen Pryde. Plaintiff’s counsels claimed that the schools sent a warning e-mail, when it was already too late and 2 hours had passed by then the student gunman Seung-Hui Cho had chained the doors to Norris hall where he killed 30 students and shot himself to death.

The plaintiff was represented by attorneys Robert Hall and Michael Kernbach. The defendant in this case, Virginia Tech and other defendants were represented by William Broaddus and Peter Messitt.

Outcome

Plaintiffs' verdict for $8 million capped by Virginia law at $100,000.00.
