In this medical malpractice litigation proceeding, plaintiff Douglas Stalley (as Guardian of the Property of Inaaya Limone) alleged Florida Health Sciences Centre and its staff of negligence when the bronchial endotracheal tube attached to plaintiffs two day old baby Inaaya Limone was improperly removed by a respiratory therapist on March 31, 2004, which allegedly resulted in massive, permanent brain damage. The defense claimed that the extubation episode did not cause the child's brain injury, which instead resulted from the traumatic pre-birth experiences that led to the her being placed in the neonatal intensive care unit in the first place, including compression of the umbilical cord, which was a pre-birth hypoxic event.
The plaintiff was represented by attorney William Hahn. The defendant in this case, Florida Health Sciences Centre was represented by attorney Edward Carbone.
The case ended in a mistrial.
